SILVER LAKE Spanish Revival

While on the hunt for a new Los Angeles abode to call home, our musician clients took us along for the ride before ultimately landing on a multi-level 1920's Spanish revival home with a breathtaking view of the Silver Lake reservoir. The primary intention of the project was to conscientiously restore the original soul of the home by bringing back period-specific materials and details to the bathrooms and kitchen that while true to the era, also imbue the interior with a timeless glamour.

Beyond that, our clients were in need of more storage than the bathrooms could possibly provide provided, so we added built-in storage with tiled countertops and tiled face frames in two bathrooms and raised linen cabinets in two others. And, when it became apparent that the existing footprint of the primary bathroom couldn't contain all of our clients' bathing daydreams, we converted an adjacent closet into an extension of the primary bath. We made it a dedicated water closet that freed up space to fit a clawfoot tub, expansive shower, double vanity, and storage cabinet in the bathroom without having to knock down walls or otherwise impact the original flow of the home. In the kitchen, we salvaged the contemporary kitchen cabinets, counters, and backsplash while updating the plumbing fixtures, hardware, lighting, and paint. The guest suite become an art and music studio complete with a custom murphy bed for late nights. Throughout we replaced the hardwood with as close a match as we could find to the original (since the original could not stand another sanding), updated the lighting system with Forbes + Lomax, and refreshed the plaster work. It was a project years in the making and well worth the blood, sweat, and not-gonna-lie tears.
